Cops Hospitalized, Dog Dead As Arrest Of Wanted Dorchester Fugitive Goes Awry: Police

A 'warning: beware of dog' sign would likely have been appreciated when police officers were arresting a 22-year-old man who was wanted on 12 outstanding warrants.

The arrest of Tumerrick Brown, of Dorchester, quickly escalated after a pair of dogs attacked a police officer on Wednesday, April 19 at approximately 1:30 p.m., according to the Boston Police Department.

Brown, who was wanted for a slew of crimes including assault and battery on a police officer, was placed under arrest by members of the Boston Police Department Youth Violence Strike Force at an apartment located at 28 Michigan Avenue. 

Shortly after placing Brown in custody, two dogs that were inside the apartment attacked one of the arresting officers, biting them multiple times. A second officer fired their gun at the dogs, hitting both of them. 

Both police officers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. 

One of the dogs received injuries and the other died from the incident. 

After the incident, police obtained and executed a search warrant for the apartment and found a .40 caliber firearm. Brown was therefore charged with the following:

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition
  • Unlawful storage of a firearm 
  • Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number

These charges are on top of the 12 outstanding warrants Brown was wanted on, including the following: 

  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon
  • Fugitive from justice (Salam, NH)
  • Multiple counts of larceny 
  • Several violations of the Chapter 90 MA auto laws
